Derry NH Route 28 Water Main Extension Project

The Town of Derry has been working with the NH Department of Environmental Services on a project to extend the Derry municipal water system south along Route 28 and into nearby neighborhoods. This project is in response to the detection of the drinking water contaminant MtBE in some area wells. The design has been completed and construction is expected to begin in early September. 

American Excavating, the Town’s contractor, will be mobilizing crews and equipment during the week of September 6. Given the late start and the restrictions in place from NHDOT on Route 28 construction, the plan will be to allow excavation on lower volume Town roads up until mid-November.

Water main installation work will be conducted on the following roads this fall:

Lawrence Road (Route 28 to Stark Road)
Stark Road (Lawrence Road to Gervaise Dr.)
Frost Road (South Range to Skylark Dr.)

The project will resume in spring 2017, including:

Route 28 (Berry Road to Ryan’s Hill - Pete’s Scoop)
Blunt Drive
Frost Road (Route 28 to Skylark Drive)

Service connections, to be completed in the spring, will be left at the property line for all abutting properties with the exception of those properties on the east side of Route 28 whose wells do not exceed the maximum drinking water quality limits for MtBE.  Once the project is completed, additional information will be provided to area residents and businesses regarding the process to connect to the water system. Property owners, however, will be under no obligation to connect to the public water system.

As the project progresses, we will post relevant information to the Town of Derry website www.derrynh.org. The project will be staffed with traffic control and appropriate warning signage. Through traffic will be maintained at all times however, will be sometimes restricted to one lane. Some delays can be expected.
