Senior Programs

The Derry Parks & Recreation Department offers numerous programs and events for senior citizens from Derry and other surrounding communities throughout the year. Participants must be at least 50 years old in age to qualify for Senior citizen services, events, and programs. Most events and programs are free of charge while some have a nominal fee. Many of the programs and activities are held at the Veterans Hall Gymnasium located at 31 West Broadway in Derry. This is also the location of the Derry Parks & Recreation offices, where senior citizens and their families can find information on new programs or register for an upcoming trip or event.

Indoor walking is a great way to keep active during the winter months and at your own pace. Current Walking Schedule is as follows but may be modified in the future:

  • Monday 12-1:30, Tuesday 10:30-11:30, Wednesday & Friday 9-9:45, Thursday 11-12

  • This is a very relaxed form of Tai Chi sitting & standing enjoy the calm!

Zumba Gold, Tuesday’s at 12pm with Instructor Dawn B. FREE

  • Zumba Gold is an easy-to-follow program that lets you move to the beat at your own speed. It is the total-body wellness program that feels like a party while it revitalizes your mind and body. The biggest difference between Zumba Gold and other Zumba classes is that Zumba gold is done at a much lower intensity. It's just as much fun just not as fast!

Line Dancing, Wednesday & Friday at 10am–11am with Instructor Sharon D.

$3 for residents $5 for non-residents

  • Line Dancing is an easy-to-follow program that takes a pre choreographed set of steps and turns it into a sequenced dance. Line Dancing is a great way to get fit plus you don’t need a partner so it’s great for making new friends. The biggest difference between the Wednesday class and Friday class is the intensity. Wednesday is perfect for beginners while the Friday class is more for the intermediate dancer.
