Why do fire trucks show up on an ambulance call?

All of our apparatus are equipped with Advanced Life Support equipment and Paramedics. An engine or ladder may respond with an ambulance in order to provide additional care or manpower support during a medical emergency and may arrive prior to the ambulance.
