On September 25, 2022, BC Laro was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief.  As the Battalion Chief assigned to Battalion 1, he is responsible for command and control of daily emergency incidents and shift personnel management.  He also has Department wide responsibility for all firefighting related Training.  As the Chief of Training, he has primary responsibility for developing, coordinating, and administering firefighting related training programs, with the support and assistance from his corps of Company Officers.

A native of Lebanon, NH, BC Laro started his EMS career in the Upper Valley in 1999, before attending NHTI’s Paramedic Program from 1999-2001.  After graduating from NHTI in 2001, he worked in private EMS before accepting a position as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Derry Fire Department in 2002.  Over the past twenty-one years, he has served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Lieutenant, and briefly as the Station Captain of Island Pond Station 2.  In 2006, he was named Firefighter of the Year by the Derry Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1617.  He has held the Union positions of Steward, Chief Steward and Vice President within IAFF Local 4392.  Additionally, he has previously served on the Technical Rescue Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, Active Shooter Committee, and managed the Department’s Tools and Equipment Program from 2018-2022. 

He has an A.S. in Paramedic Emergency Medicine and is working towards a B.A. in Applied Management.  He holds numerous certifications in both Fire and EMS, as well as being a Hazardous Materials Technician.  In 2019, he was awarded the Fire Officer Designation by the Center for Public Safety Excellence, making him one of only 16 Fire Officers in NH to hold this designation.  Notably, he also earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1998, to this day cherishing the experiences and life lessons he learned along that journey.

BC Laro lives in Chester with his wife, Ashley, whom he met at NHTI and married in 2006, and his two daughters, Abigail and Samantha.  When not working for the Department, he enjoys all manner of outdoor activities, including camping with his family and flyfishing with his Derry Fire Department “Brothers”.
