Community AED Program

Available to Derry residents for Free!

The Town of Derry, NH through the Derry Fire Department, is proud to offer a valuable program that will aid our community in the treatment of persons experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The program allows members of the Town of Derry community that meet certain criteria to “check out” an automated external defibrillator (AED) for group events occurring within the Town of Derry, NH.

Eligibility Criteria:
  1. Each group must have an authorized representative who will attend the group’s event, is at least 18 years old, and will be an anticipated responder in the event of sudden cardiac arrest incident during the group’s event.
  2. At least one alternate anticipated responder who will attend the group’s event (in the event the authorized representative is unable to attend the event) and is 18 years’ old or older.
  3. The authorized representative, alternate, and any other anticipated responders must meet CPR and AED use training requirements specified by the Town.
  4. The group’s event must occur within the Town of Derry.
  5. Completion of a fully executed Community Use of AED License Agreement and AED checklist.
To apply for use of an AED:
  1. Submit a request form to the Derry Fire Department EMS Captain. Contact information is found below.
  2. Request forms must be received by the Derry Fire Department no later than 5 business days before the event date. The request must be made during business hours, Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm.
  3. In addition to meeting eligibility criteria, requests to borrow an AED are subject to AED availability.   AED's will be issued on a first come, first served basis to those meeting the eligibility criteria.
  4. The Town will only loan the AED to groups meeting all the eligibility criteria set forth above. The group must have an authorized representative (as well as an alternate), age 18 or older, who will be present at the event and responsible for the transportation, storage, operation and return of the AED. The authorized representative will be the contact person for the group and will be responsible for ensuring the alternate and any other anticipated responders who may use the AED have the required CPR and AED use training requirements set by the Town.
  5. The group’s authorized representative is also required to:
    1. Review and execute a  "AED Use Agreement"
    2. Review and complete the “AED Loaner Checklist
  6. Approval or denial of the request will be communicated to the applicant by the Derry Fire Department in-person, or by phone or email.
  7. Training and AED pick-up and return is available Monday-Friday 8:00 am -3:00 pm. For weekend events, units may be picked up the Friday before the event and returned the following Monday. An extension of up to 90 days may be granted by the Town if an AED is available.
