Description: Privately owned land with a conservation easement, some of the land is currently farmed. The land under easement cannot be developed for residential or industrial purposes. The land consists of open fields and forested land. The portion of the land north of Island Pond Road is bisected by West Running Brook. This area along West Running Brook is thought to be the original location of the first Scotch-Irish settlement in Derry, originally called “Nutfield.” The Grinnell Trail, which is open to the public, starts on Humphrey Road and goes south through open fields. The trail crosses West Running Brook and Island Pond Road. The trail then goes south from Island Pond Road and connects to the Robert Frost Farm nature trail. The Town of Derry purchased the easement on the property from the Grinnell family.
