Captain Michael LaValley is assigned as a Company Officer at the English Range Road Fire Station.  As the Station Captain, he oversees all facility maintenance and upkeep, budgeting as well as planning and implementing capital improvement projects for Station 3.  This station houses Ladder 3, Medic 3, and Forestry 3.

Captain LaValley started his fire career as a call firefighter in 1994 with East Derry Fire Precinct and later became a full-time Firefighter/ EMT Intermediate in January 1999. He was promoted to Lieutenant in May 2004 and joined the Derry Fire Department upon the merger of the two departments in 2005. Captain LaValley was promoted to the rank of Captain in July 2021.

Captain LaValley obtained an associate degree in Health Science from NHTI Concord in 2001 and became a Paramedic. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management from Granite State College.

Captain LaValley has received his Fire Officer Designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.  He holds professional certificates as a Certified Company Officer, Trench Rescue Technician, Structural Collapse, Hazardous Materials Technician, and various technical rescue disciplines.

Captain LaValley has been involved in community programs including volunteering at the Sonshine Soup Kitchen, participating in the Read Across America Program, Community CPR/AED instructor, coordinator of the Derry Touch a Truck event, Narcan Program, MDA co-chair, American Red Cross blood drive coordinator, Eagle Scout, member of the Knights of Columbus and is the Derry Fire Honor Guard Quartermaster.

Captain LaValley was awarded with the honor of VFW Emergency Service Provider of the Year on May 1, 2016. He received a merit unit citation from New Hampshire Fire & EMS Committee in January 2009 for the Fordway Road MVA/ water rescue.

Captain Michael LaValley is married to his wife Cheryl, and they have three children. They make their home in Derry.
