The largest division within the Derry Fire Department is the Operations Division, which is responsible for emergency medical services, fire suppression, mitigation of disasters, and rescue activities.

The Derry Fire Department currently staffs 4 fire stations and 4 Battalions. The Fire Chief and Administrative Offices are located at the Derry Municipal Center at 14 Manning Street.

The fire personnel work 24 hours on duty followed by 72 hours off duty. There are 15 firefighters on duty each day in Derry divided up amongst the 4 stations. The shift is Commanded by a Battalion Chief, a Captain on each Battalion, and a Lieutenant at each station. Each station is also staffed with a firefighter/EMT and a firefighter/paramedic.

Operations Division Firefighters inspect commercial and multi-residential facilities on an annual basis. In addition to emergency work, Operations Division members provide a wide range of services to the community including blood-pressure screening, tours of fire stations and apparatus, and fire and life safety presentations within the community.

Fire Department Services

Firefighters do much more than just fight fires. They provide a wide variety of services within the community such as:

• Physically inspect commercial and multi-residential buildings for fire safety violations.
• Ensure fire permit requirements are complied with and current.
• Provide emergency medical services.
• Department Paramedics are some the highest trained Paramedics in the State of New Hampshire.
• Perform non-emergency service calls such as assisting with flooded buildings and homes.
• Actively participate and/or sponsor a variety of community events, organizations, and fundraisers.
• Work within the community to educate and raise general awareness on issues of fire safety.
• Give free fire station tours upon request.
